What will I be doing?
FIZZ South Africa 2016 is an exciting and transformative experience with two distinct focuses:
A) INVESTING IN YOU
Before you invest in others, we're going to invest in you.
How is your relationship with your Papa? What's He been saying to you recently?
Do you get a moment to 'take a breath' and be still?
A large proportion of each day will be spent in worship, Bible exploration, prayer and discussion.
As part of FIZZ South Africa 2016, you will be invested in and developed as disciples.
You'll be mentored. You'll be challenged. You'll be inspired.
B) INVESTING IN OTHERS
You'll have many opportunities to invest in others in your team and the township communities of George.
OAM believes in an unstructured programme and being part of the rhythm of the local communities so opportunites vary. They may include:
- teaching at the local pre-school (and investing in the leaders of tomorrow)
- assisting with the feeding programme and food drops
- visiting families and showing that you care
- sharing your faith story one on one
- unstructured play with the children of the townships.
OAM believes in following Jesus' relational approach - spending time with people and literally
sitting in the dirt with them.
This is NOT just a photo album experience.
FIZZ South Africa 2016 will equip you to live your faith out at home as well as beyond.
Who can be part of FIZZ 2016?
We're looking for FIZZ team members who:
LOVES NEW EXPERIENCES
You're the kind of person who loves getting to know new people and discovering new cultures.
FOLLOWER OF JESUS
You don't need to know the answers to all the 'big' questions but you'll have a passion for deepening your relationship with God.
ADAPTABLE
You know that things don't always go to plan... and understand that sometimes Plan B is better than Plan A.
TEAM PLAYER'
We' is always better than 'me.'
COMMITTED
This is not just a two week trip - you'll be committed to fundraising, attending a team building weekend and sharing your experience when you return home.
FIZZ TEAM MEMBERS WILL BE 18 YEARS OLD BY 1 AUGUST 2016.
The FAQs
How much will it cost?
You'll need to raise between £800 and £1,000 for this life-changing experience. Here's the cost breakdown:
£320: Accommodation and food in George and travel to and from Cape Town International Airport
£85 + travel: Team briefing weekend somewhere in the UK between August and October 2016 (tbc).
In addition, you'll also have to book and pay for your own flights (c. £500-700 depending on when you book) and be responsible for your own travel insurance.
Don't let the cost put you off: you may be surprised how many people will want to invest in you and in George. [We can help provide a fundraising pack].
Are there any hidden extras?
You'll have to cover the cost of any food if you decide to have a meal out at a restaurant. This is at the team's own discretion - meals cost £5-15. You may also want to go on a safari - this can be arranged at an extra cost of around £23.
Where will I be staying?
You'l be staying in a safe and comfortable house with access to all the normal amenities.
Tell me a little more about Out of Africa Missions...
Out of Africa Missions is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 2004 by Executive Director Pierre Bartels, who envisioned strengthening the kingdom by offering the opportunity for missions teams to come and serve in South Africa. Based in George, South Africa, OAM operates a variety of projects aimed at uniting individuals, ministries, organisations and churches in demonstrating God’s love and mentoring people to make a difference in their communities.
Out of Africa Missions exists to be a catalyst for change in the local community and beyond, and to introduce people to a personal faith in Jesus Christ, while serving their local community. You can find out more on the OAM website - www.outofafricamissions.org.

Feedback from previous FIZZ South Africa team members...

Sarah Hamilton
I loved being on the team with other GB members because the trip was personal to each of us. As we didn't really know each other, it was so brilliant to make friends and have banter with people who you could really bond with... The trip allows you to grow in your faith openly with people with the same mindset. It's an amazing opportunity to learn and meet new people.

Amelia Heaford
Being able to take time out of routine to do something for God's glory has helped me reflect on my relationship with Him in the every day so that I can see an appreciate things that I did not before the mission.

Alexandra King
Would I recommend going on a FIZZ team? Definitely! Though I couldn't guarantee the same experiences (which were once in a lifetime), if someone wants to make a big difference for others and themselves, make new friends and develop their relationship with God...this is tailor-made for them! The memories I made in Africa are the kind that will never leave me, profound and hilarious alike, so what's not to recommend?

Linda Savage
The trip to George was a completely different experience to what I thought it would be. Sure there was playing games and having fun with the children living in the township but there was much more than that. We had the opportunity to feed peoples both in their homes & in the local clinic but we also had the opportunity to feed our souls. Warning: if you're not prepared to have your hair platted endlessly, this might not be the right trip! If you're prepared to stretch yourself spiritually and be challenged to look at your relationship with God, then I can think of no better place to do it!
